We have great aquatic bird watching right from the porch, Dining room, Lake room, and two of the suites. We also have great bird watching on a hiking trail through the woods behind the house.

Itasca headwaters of the Mississippi

Itasca State Park

Established in 1891, Itasca is Minnesota’s oldest state park. Today, the park totals more than 32,000 acres and includes more than 100 lakes. Walk across the mighty Mississippi as it starts its winding journey 2,552 miles to the Gulf of Mexico. Stand under towering pines at Preacher’s Grove. Visit the Itasca Indian Cemetery or Wegmann’s Cabin, landmarks of centuries gone by. Explore Wilderness Drive past the 2,000-acre Wilderness Sanctuary, one of Minnesota’s seven National Natural Landmarks. Dine at The Douglas Lodge Restaurant, a full-service restaurant. Or The Headwaters Café, a cafeteria-style restaurant located in the Mary Gibbs Mississippi Headwaters Center.

Tennis & Pickle Ball at Walker City Park

The Walker city park has recently been redone and is right on Leech Lake. There are tennis courts, a playground and swimming beach all maintained from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The city park also hosts a variety of events including 4th of July celebrations, Walker Bay Days in August, Triathlon in July, and a marathon in September. Fishing on Leech Lake

We support catch and release fishing in several ways! Fishing guides who will come pick you up and supply everything. We will help you launch, retrieve and dock your boat at no cost. We have three kayaks and a canoe you can use and fish from at no cost. You can fish from the dock and the shore with your own gear. Hiking Near Leech Lake

Hiking in Walker, MN gives you a lot of options with a number of area multi-purpose trail systems with Leech Lake B&B at a comfortable distance to all of them. Or use our shuttle service to go one way- and request maps from us! Shingobee Recreational Area becomes a mountain biking and hiking trail during the summer and is near the Heartland Biking Trail and the North Country National Trail. There are also the Hunter Walking Trail System, the Snoway 1, and the County Road 50 Trail System. These Minnesota hiking trails have great scenic views of secluded lakes and the opportunity to spot wildlife. Click here for more information about hiking our local trails.

Pickleball Courts

The Walker Area Community Center has pickleball on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon. Pickleball is played on a badminton court with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center. It is played with a ball similar to a whiffle ball and wood or composite paddles. It is easy for beginners to learn and can quickly become a fast-paced game for experienced players. Much of the fruit used at Forestedge is harvested from the winery grounds. Rhubarb plants, which started as part of the family garden, have now become a large part of what is harvested for wine. Chokecherries, raspberries, and plums are also grown at the farm. Forestedge Winery is about 18 minutes from the B&B.
